#19 Baseball Slips at Adelphi, 8-4

Garden City, N.Y. – The 19th ranked Molloy baseball team played its first game in the northeast Saturday afternoon falling to the Panthers of Adelphi University, 5-4, at William J. Bonomo Memorial Field. The Lions move to 7-2, while the Panthers improve to 2-3.
 
How it Happened

  • The Lions cracked the scoreboard first with four runners crossing the plate in the top of the second. Junior Chris Giardino singled and advanced to third which led to graduate student Robby Keane scoring following an error on the play, freshman Sean Serrano scored Giardino with a sacrifice fly, and junior Garrett Scavelli capped the inning with a two RBI triple to give the Lions a 4-0 lead.
  • The Panthers got one back in the fifth to cut the deficit to three, 4-1.
  • The home team tied the game at four in the bottom of the sixth following a pair of RBI singles and an RBI double.
  • Adelphi broke the contest open in the eighth. With two outs on the board, the Panthers rallied for four runs in the frame and would go on to win the game, 8-4.

  • Sophomore JJ DeVito tallied two hits.
  • Scavelli drove in a pair of runners.
