SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The D'Youville University (DYU) softball team opened its' 2023 slate by dropping a one-run contest in game one, 8-7, before responding in game two with 17 hits to best Converse College (CC) 14-5 to split a pair of games on Friday afternoon.

GAME 1: CC 8, DYU 7

• CC gets on the board with three in the first
• Hannah Bardeen homers to get one back in the second before Gianna Adamo doubles to pull DYU within one in the third, 3-2
• CC answers back in the fourth with a pair of unearned runs, 5-2
• Mikayla Bush's RBI single to left cuts the deficit to two, 5-3, in the fifth
• Laura Beck is rewarded for putting the ball in play as her fielder's choice allows DYU to plate two before Bardeen reaches on an error, plating Adamo, as the Saints take a 6-5 lead
• A one out CC single ties the game heading to the seventh
• Emily Przybysz's clutch infield single with two outs had the Saints back on top but after DYU records the first two outs in the bottom half of the frame a single followed by a triple allows CC to walk it off, 8-7

GAME 2: DYU 14, CC 5

• DYU erupts for five in the first but CC answers with two in the bottom, DYU 5-2
• CC chips away with one more in the second, DYU 5-2 heading to the fourth
• Bardeen leads off the frame with her second HR of the day before three CC errors lead to four more DYU runs in the inning, DYU 10-3
• CC again responds with a pair in the home half before quiet fifth and sixth innings, DYU 10-5
• Bush, Bower and Przybysz each tack on RBI hits in the seventh to cap off a 14-5 Saints win
