Player of the Week
Shannon Shippey, Philadelphia (Sr., A, Freeport, N.Y. / Freeport) - Scored nine goals on 17 shots and added eight assists in a 3-0 week. Notched six points (4g, 2a) against Georgian Court including the game-winner, and picked up eight points (4g, 4 a) against St. Thomas Aquinas. She added three points (1g, 2a) and three ground balls against Wilmington.
Goalkeepers of the Week
Caitlin Fitzpatrick, Adelphi (So., GK, Port Washington, N.Y. / Paul D. Scriber) - Made 11 stops in a 14-10 win over sixth-ranked Stonehill. She faced 28 shots and held Stonehill scoreless on all seven of its position attempts.
Lauren Scipione, C.W. Post (Sr., GK, East Meadow, N.Y. / East Meadow) - Stopped 13 of 18 shots in goal, recording a 2.00 GAA in 90 minutes. Notched nine saves (2 GA) in a complete game win over Bentley and allowed two goals (4 saves) in one half against Saint Anselm. Notched 50th career victory in the process.
Rookie of the Week
Ashley Ferrandiz, New Haven (Fr., M, West Sayville, N.Y. / Sayville H.S.) - Tied for a team-high with ten points (7g, 3a) in a 2-0 week with nine groundballs and four caused turnovers. Her seven goals were scored on eight shots. Had the eventual game winner versus AIC.
ECC Notebook
ECC: In the most recent IWLCA Division II national poll (4/7), C.W. Post remained the nation's top ranked team, while Adelphi was No. 3 and New Haven was No. 9.
C.W. Post: C.W. Post, ranked first in the IWLCA/Under Armour Division II poll for the eighth straight week, continued its perfect season, posting a 2-0 record against Bentley (18-2) and St. Anselm (21-4). Junior attacker Jaclyn Napoli recorded her 100th career goal against St. Anselm. The Pioneers outscored their opponents by a 39-6 margin. C.W. Post will play its next three games on the road, beginning at Dowling on Apr. 15 before wrapping the weekend up north against Franklin Pierce (Apr. 19) and St. Michael's College (Apr. 20).
Adelphi: Adelphi University remained perfect on the season (9-0) with a non-conference victory over #6 ranked Stonehill College, 14-10. The Panthers jumped out to a 9-3 lead through the first half and never looked back. Junior Rachel Ray led the team with four goals, three off of free position shots, and two assists. Sophomore goalie Caitlin Fitzpatrick collected 11 saves, while holding the Skyhawks scoreless on free position shots (0-7). The Panthers return to action on Tuesday, April 15, at Merrimack.
Dowling: Dowling improved to 2-1 in ECC play, 6-3 overall as the defeated STAC 24-11 on Wednesday. Kelly Cefalu netted a carer high 7 goals and added an assist to lead all scorers. In recent NCAA statistical rankings, Vanessa Moreira and Cassandra Cronin are both tied for 3rd in the country in caused turnovers, averaging 2.33 per contest. As a team, Dowling ranks 2nd in the nation in that category causing 11.78 per game. The Golden Lions return to action this week hosting #1 CW Post Wednesday @ 4:00 and Saturday in a non-conference showdown with Regis @ 1:00.
New Haven: The #9 University of New Haven women's lacrosse team (10-2, 3-2 ECC) added two more victories to its season total this week with wins over American International College and Franklin Pierce University. In the 21-6 win over AIC, ten different players scored for UNH, led by four goals from Brigid Brady and three goals apiece from Brianna Kenworthy and Ashley Ferrandiz. On Saturday, the Chargers defeated Franklin Pierce 20-10 behind an eight point performance from Mallory Ferrandiz (4g, 4a). Freshman Ashley Ferrandiz also tallied four goals for the UNH against the Ravens. Up next for UNH this week are three non-conference matches versus Bryant, Merrimack and Saint Anselm.
Philadelphia: The Lady Rams have won three straight games and have held their opponents to less than 10 goals in six of nine outings on the 2008 season.
Molloy: The Lady Lions went 2-0 for the week with victories over Farmingdale and Georgian Court. Rebecca LaFlare had nine goals, while Kristina Wargo had four goals and four assists over the two games. Lori Sollitto pitched in with five goals and two assists.
