Wilmington, Del. – The Molloy women's soccer team topped the Panthers of Adelphi University, 2-0, Friday afternoon at Wilmington University Athletics Complex. The Lions improved to 1-0, while the Panthers fell to 0-1.
How it Happened
- The Molloy backline began the contest with two blocked shots in the first 10 minutes of action.
- In the 29th minute, freshman Mikaela Barriga netted the first goal of the season off a crossing pass from senior Sienna Nicolich.
- Adelphi threatened with two opportunities in the final five minutes of the first half, but junior goalkeeper Shannon Kilian made a pair of saves to keep the score, 1-0, heading into halftime.
- The Panthers put together two chances in in the first five minutes of the second stanza. Kilian, stood strong in goal making saves four and five of the afternoon to keep the score at bay.
- In the 56th minute, Nicolich found the back of the net for her first goal of the season to extend Molloy's lead to two, 2-0.
- In the final 19 minutes of the contest, Adelphi put three shots on goal that were all stopped by Kilian, as Molloy went on to secure the, 2-0, victory.
Top Performances
- Nicolich totaled three points (one goal and one assist).
- Barriga netted her first collegiate goal.
- Kilian made seven saves for her first shutout of the season.
