Three ECC Indoor Track & Field Student-Athletes Named as NCAA Championship Participants

Indianapolis, Ind. – Three student-athletes from ECC Track and Field teams will be participating in the 2013 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama beginning on March 7. Three women, Shaun-Kay Creary of the University of the District of Columbia and Alyssa Hudgins and Tiffany Okieme from Georgian Court, will compete for a chance at a National Championship.

Creary will compete in the long jump event. At the recent ECC Championship, Creary took home the long jump title by jumping a distance of 5.77 meters. That jump was a season best for Creary and was tied for the 13th best jump in Division II this year.

Hudgins will compete in the weight throw after dominating the ECC Championship in the same event. Hudgins threw a season best distance of 18.60 meters (almost five meters more than the runner-up) in the ECC meet, good enough for the 10th seed heading into the NCAA Championship.

Okieme, who won the ECC Championship in shot put, heads into the NCAA Championship with the second longest distance in Division II this year (15.62 meters).

Student-athletes qualified for the championships by reaching the automatic and provisional standards established for each event.
