Mercy Men Kick-Off With Alumni Game

DOBBS FERRY, NY - Over 100 were in attendance to help kick-off the 2008 fall season at the Mercy College men's soccer alumni game on Saturday, August 16. A total of 25 former men's soccer players participated in the contest with the white squad coming out on top 2-0.

Alumni, family, friends and fans watched goalkeeper Michael Henry ('94) make several key stops to preserve the shutout and earn the game's Most Valuable Player award.

Robert Rennis ('05) gave his squad an early 1-0 lead in the first half as he connected for a goal off a feed from current assistant coach Rob Ward ('05).  Daimeon Savage ('04) added an insurance goal just before intermission with a blast around the wall on a direct kick. Henry and the defense held strong from there.

"I can't thank our alumni and their families enough for a tremendous show of support," said Head Coach Nick Bell ('05) who also played two years for Mercy. "It was a great turnout on a perfect day. Our alumni have created a wonderful tradition for Mercy College men's soccer and this was an outstanding start to our season."

Bell's current squad will get the 2008 campaign underway when it travels to a tournament hosted by West Chester University on August 30-31.  The Mavericks' home opener will be on Sunday, September 14, versus Lock Haven at 2:00 p.m.
