NEW YORK - Sports Illustrated recently announced the names of
its "Faces in the Crowd" honorees for the upcoming Sept. 10 edition
of the magazine, and C.W. Post women's lacrosse senior midfielder
Mallory Poole (Corning, N.Y.) will be cited in the national
publication. This issue of the publication should hit newsstands on
or around Thursday (Sept. 6), and a preview of the "Faces in the
Crowd" issue can be viewed online.
Poole is the second Pioneers women's lacrosse player to be cited in
Sports Illustrated in the last 14 months; last July, graduated
senior Shannon Fabian was tabbed in the issue after setting the
NCAA Division II single-season assists record.
Poole has made her name known on the national lacrosse scene during
her career at C.W. Post, as she will enter the 2008 season as a
three-time first-team All-America. This past season she led the
Pioneers to an undefeated 17-0 record, and the program's second
NCAA Division II championship. Poole was named the tournament's
most outstanding player after scoring four goals in C.W. Post's
title-game victory over West Chester (May 13). She recently reached
a pinnacle in her lacrosse career, as Poole was the only
non-Division I player named to the U.S. Lacrosse developmental
team.
In her 52-game career at C.W. Post, Poole, the vice-president of
the school's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, has scored 114
points (94 g, 20 a) and accumulated strong numbers in the ground
balls (84), draw controls (79) and caused turnovers (43).
Poole is one of seven starting players slated to return to C.W.
Post in 2008, and will be under the direction of first-year head
coach Meghan McNamara - an assistant with the Pioneers for the 2006
and 2007 seasons.
