Mercy College Women's Soccer Raises Funds in Support of Army of Women and Breast Cancer Research

DOBBS FERRY, NY - Throughout the fall semester the Mercy College women's soccer team conducted a fundraising and awareness campaign in support of the Army of Women, a breast cancer research initiative that was launched in October of 2008.

During their season, members of the team received contributions and sold pink caps with the Mercy College soccer logo on the front.  Proceeds from the cap sales and financial contributions totaled $200 and will be donated to the Army of Women.

"Everybody knows someone that has been affected by breast cancer," said senior captain Jessica Fabian (Whitehall, PA).  "We are so grateful for the support we received from the entire Mercy College community and we are all proud to be a part of this important effort."

The Army of Women is a collaborative initiative between the Dr. Susan Love Research Foundation and the Avon Foundation, a global leader in breast cancer research. Its key goals are to recruit one million healthy women of every age and ethnicity, including breast cancer survivors and women at high-risk for the disease, to partner with breast cancer researchers and directly participate in the research that will eradicate breast cancer; and to challenge the scientific community to expand its current focus to include breast cancer prevention research conducted on healthy women.
