Player of the Week

Mallory Ferrandiz, New Haven (Jr., M, West Sayville, N.Y. / Sayville H.S.) - Ferrandiz, coming off a surgery which forced her out early last season, led the Chargers with 13 points (8 G, 5 A) in a 2-0 week.  She scored three goals versus Southern Connecticut and added five against Rollins.  Ferrandiz also contributed four groundballs and two caused turnovers.

Goalkeepers of the Week

Rachael Goldstein, Dowling (Fr., GK, Ridge, N.Y. / Longwood HS) - Posted 26 saves and went 2-0 last week. She stopped 12 shots including two late one-on-one saves with less than two minutes remaining to preserve a 15-14 upset over Bentley in the program's first varsity contest. She added 14 saves in a victory over Farmingdale State.

Lauren Scipione, C.W. Post
(Sr., GK,  East Meadow, N.Y. / East Meadow) - Played 110:26 minutes and made 21 saves for a 5.26 GAA and 2-0 record.  Made 12 saves in a 16-8 victory over No. 8 Mercyhurst and nine stops against Georgian Court.

Rookie of the Week

Ashley Ferrandiz, New Haven (Fr., M, West Sayville, N.Y./ Sayville H.S.) - Tallied eight points (5 G, 3 A), including along with seven groundballs and 10 draw controls in a 2-0 week.  Tallied the eventual game winner versus Rollins.

ECC Notebook

Adelphi: The #4 Adelphi University Panthers topped #8 Mercyhurst in its only contest of the week. Junior Rachel Ray tallied three goals and dished out five assists.  Ray also assisted on the game-winning goal with 8:11 remaining. She currently leads the team with 23 points, including 15 assists.  Adelphi returns to action next Saturday as they travel to Georgian Court.

CW Post:
The No. 1 ranked Pioneers put up a 2-0 record at home this week with a 16-8 win over No. 8 Mercyhurst and 17-3 win against Georgian Court.  Against Mercyhurst, the Pioneers jumped out to a 5-0 lead and outscored the Lakers, 7-2, in the first half.  Seven players tallied two or more goals in the winning effort.  Against Georgian Court, the Pioneers outshot the Lions, 28-13 in the game and held a 28-18 ground ball advantage.  Junior attacker Jaclyn Napoli led in scoring with four goals with one assist while senior attacker Jenna Miller added four assists with two goals.  The Pioneers will play one game on the road this week at Bryant before beginning conference play next week at New Haven.

Dowling: The Golden Lions opened up their inaugural campaign with a thrilling 15-14 victory over Bentley College on Wednesday and traveled to Farmingdale State for an 18-7 win on the road Saturday, improving their record to 2-0. Vanessa Moreria and Kelly Cefalu led the team with 7 goals on the week with Cefalu adding two helpers for a team high 9 points. Racael Goldstein was solid between the pipes picking up her first two career victories. Dowling continues their road trip down south taking on Lees McRae Tuesday and #2 Limestone on Thursday. 

New Haven: The University of New Haven women's lacrosse team opened their 2008 season with two consecutive non-conference victories.  They defeated Southern Connecticut State University 22-8 and followed with a 17-8 win at Rollins College.  Junior Mallory Ferrandiz, coming off a surgery which forced her out early last season, led the Chargers with 13 points, including 8 goals in the two matches.  Ferrandiz also contributed five assists, four groundballs and two caused turnovers.  Her younger sister, Ashley Ferrandiz tallied 8 points, including five goals in her first two collegiate matches.  Ashley also had three assists, seven groundballs and ten draw controls.  One of her five goals was the game winner versus Rollins College on Saturday.  Freshman attacker Carolina Marrero had five points, including a three goal performance against Rollins College.  Brigid Brady had seven goals and one assist.  Junior Brianna Kenworthy added five goals and an assist.
